YouTube Video of Modern Quilt Relish Booth at Quilt Market 2012 Kansas City

Marny here...a new adventure.  We are now trying to learn about videos.  This one is a very simple one exploring our booth at Spring Quilt Market.  Sorry about the camera movement.  Technicalities need to be ironed out.  It remains amazing what an iPhone and YouTube can do in just a few minutes.  Now for learning editing, etc.  Yikes.  It is like opening another can of worms...There is not enough time in a day.
How often do you all head to YouTube to watch videos.  We heard it is now second only to Google itself as a search engine.  Wow!!
Till Tuesday.

International Quilt Market 2012

jill here....Where did the past week go?

We arrived in Kansas City Wednesday afternoon and after a smooth landing,
received help from our friends and former co-workers, Eileen and Janelle.

We plotted and planned, knowing some quilts had to come down for schoolhouse.
Hard work and a birthday were worthy of a celebration!

From left to right, new quilts and samples.

The view straight on with our little office..
a sometime welcome place for weary feet to rest.  (Not just ours!)

Right corner and side, ready for business... Friday, Saturday and Sunday!
We were so fortunate to renew associations with customers and meet many new ones.  It was a great show!  After just a little rest and some new designs, we'll be ready for Houston!

'Till next Tuesday....

New Modern Quilt Relish Patterns & Magazine Reveal

We have so much to reveal and share today!!
Here is our first bit of news.  Janelle gave us a phone call Friday, from the Quilting Connection in Ames, IA.  It is the store we used to work in--full of fabric, full of fun, and all around fantastic.  She was eager to congratulate us on having a quilt published in a magazine on their shelves.  Quite a surprise for our old co-workers to be leafing through the pages and to see our smiling faces looking up at them!

Yes, we have a quilt published in a really wonderful magazine!  The link for the McCall's Quilting America Makes Fast Quilts is here.

Introducing Cafeteria Line!
Cafeteria Line, Modern Quilt Relish.
Our quilt's feature page is here.  There is lots of information on that page.  Including the fact April West did the quilting that you see!  We used the Robert Kaufman's Stockholm fabric in the blue and green color way.  Robin Zingone really hit a home run with the fabric design.
Love that fabric.  It is mixed with a couple of solids.

It features all of our design hallmarks.  Negative Space, Asymmetry, Simple Shapes and the use of Color and Value to create focus and depth.  Can you tell we are practicing our talks for Quilt Market?

The magazine and the fabric (or as close as possible) are available at The Quilting Connection, Ames, IA 515-233-3048.  Tell them Marny and Jill sent you. ;-)  It is a busy shop so keep your fingers crossed.

Can you believe it?  We have even more exciting news.  We wanted to share with you, our readers,
what we are about to debut at Spring Quilt Market in Kansas City.
Today we are just sharing the covers.  In upcoming posts we will go into detail about each one and share photos of other versions.  Our online Pattern Shop is updated, and the Quilting Connection will have some too!  After Market we hope your local shops carry them as well.  Let them know if feel so inclined.  Thank you!.  And without further ado...

Introducing our two new patterns!!

Recipe Cards
Taffy Twists
And now it is off to Quilt Market.  We are eager to see old friends, meet new friends and to see lots of online friends in person!!   We are certain to squeeze in a fair amount of work as well.
Till Tuesday....

Market Samples, Market Patterns

jill here....The weather has been a bit rainy and windy so hard to photograph the last of our new samples.  These are "Salad Bar" remakes in mostly solids with one strip of Westminster's Kaffe Fassett that acts as the overlap accent.

Salad Bar Table Runner with horizontal placement,
in blues and greens.

Looks like its napping!
Scraps on the back to utilize all those little pieces.
You know, everyone always looks at the back!
Salad Bar lap quilt with same accent,
in periwinkle blue and red violets.
Love the quilting pattern.

Bow Tie Pasta With a Twist in Dear Stella Palladium.

Graphic backing, utilizing leftover blocks plus scraps

Mostly soft and mellow....

Surprise Shower Idea

Marny here....a little idea popped into my head a few weeks ago.  How do we show the warm fuzzy feelings we have for a bride and her Mom when an "in person" shower is out of the question?  Luckily I keep an abundant quantity of empty space in my head so there was plenty of room for a new idea to take root.

I'd seen this truly wonderful pattern via an email from Pink Chalk Fabrics.  The pattern is available here.  It is called the In Color Order Lined Drawstring Bag.  The designer is Jeni.  Check out her blog here.  Eight sizes, from tiny to large, with and without gussets, lined and cute as all get out!  I couldn't resist.  Magically the pdf is purchased and in my computer within minutes.  So the pattern was sitting in my downloads waiting for the right moment.  It is very thorough, well written, beautifully illustrated and easy.  I will be making more bags.

Jill is the Mom in this formula.  Her lovely daughter is getting married in a bit far from home and all of us sit here clamoring to celebrate them.  So a sneaky plan formulates.  Wonder if we fill bags with little odds and ends of fun?  So thanks to Gale, Jane, Laura, Leona, Marianne and Sue the idea became a reality.  Jill was in D.C.  (which you readers already know) with her daughter when a box arrived to be opened only when they were together.  The drawstring bags were filled with yummy chocolates, bubbly prosecco, cute notebooks, Starbuck gift card and graham treat, unique recipe book, pretty nail polish, little notes, a restaurant gift certificate and our love.  We were all thinking of them and wistful we couldn't be there in person but pleased we pulled off our Surprise!!

April Showers With Free Napkin Tutorial

jill here....  Sometimes one has to renew a memory from the past.  This one was fun and easy:  cocktail sized napkins or mug rugs, the more modern version.  We recently hosted a wedding shower and it was a way for the napkins to coordinate with the decor and gift a reusable memory for the bride.  Could be a fun way to use scraps....12" squares to be exact!  I purchased 2 different yards of Windham Fabric's Cabana Blooms designed by Melissa Ybarra for Iza Pearl Design.  You will tear the fabric so make sure there is enough fabric to tear along the grain lines to make the 12"square ( or any size you heart desires).  The print fabric has a modern take on the traditional and will look nice with the bride's white dishes.

Two different scales of modern print to embellish our table setting.

Start the squares by tearing along the grain line.

Nick the next 12" mark and tear width of fabric.  From this strip
tear every 12" length of fabric.  From each yard,
you will get nine 12" squares with some leftovers.

This is one of my favorite tools...my quarter inch foot.
It allows me to speed without thinking too much.
This time, I keep the needle centered for a very generous
1/4" seam allowance.  I tighten my stitch.

Start somewhere along the side and make the rounds,
making sure to finish the stitching line with a "fix".

It will look like this when you're finished stitching the square.
Ready to start pulling threads, unraveling anyway that works best for you.
The stitch line will stop you with the appropriate allowance.
It will look like this after you done fraying it out!
(This is a great task while watching the movie you have seen before.)
Launder, press and fold!

The juxtaposition of heirloom with modern!
The table in all its glory!

Treat yourself to a set today!  'Till next Tuesday...
